A new approach to a long standing Houston tradition...
The Houston Area Road Runners Association and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department successfully teamed up to revive a community event at the March 2000 running of the Bayou City Classic 10K, raising money to bring fitness improvements to our Houston parks. The Bayou City Classic 10K has been in existence since 1976, when it was called the Bayou City Fun Run and sported costumes and centipedes and a party in the park. Over the years it became more of a standard running event shedding some of its “fun” elements. In 2000, the centipedes and costumes were back, corporations participated in training seminars and entered their employees in an effort to enrich and enhance the fitness of their employees. Now the event will continue its tradition of fun and fitness and community spirit into the new millennium.
