Race Information

About the Bayou City Classic:

The Bayou City Classic 10k is Houston's premier 10k race and walk!  The Bayou City Classic 10k has been a Houston tradition for more than 45 years (we celebrated our Sapphire Anniversary in 2022 and are the oldest 10k in Texas) and attracts more than 3000 runners, walkers, and volunteers.

Why we put on this event:

Proceeds from the Bayou City Classic go toward helping maintain and develop trails for running and walking in our city parks.  The trails are available to anyone who lives in or visits Houston looking for a place to exercise or find a green haven away from the hustle and bustle of Houston's big city life.  Help preserve the trees!  We were able to raise over $250,000 for the Houston Parks & Recreation Department since 2013.

Race Dates & Location:

Race Day is Saturday, March 2, 2024.

Start Time:

Wheelchair participants begin the 10k at 7:50 a.m.  Runners and walkers begin the 10k at 8:00 a.m.  Wheelchair participants begin the 5k at 8:15 a.m.  Runners and walkers begin the 5k at 8:20 a.m.

Both the 10k race and the 5k fun run begin in Downtown Houston, near City Hall.   The Post Race Party will be in Hermann Square, in front of City Hall.

The race distances are 10 kilometers (or 6.2 miles) and 5 kilometers (or 3.1 miles).

2023 Swag

Race Swag:

All finishers receive a finisher's medal. The first 1500 participants who register receive a high quality, short-sleeved technical shirt from lululemon bearing the distinctive Bayou City Classic logo designed by local artist and runner April Murphy. Shirt sizes are not guaranteed but preferred sizing will be available at packet pickup on a first-come-first-served basis. Those participants who do not receive a lululemon shirt will still receive a technical shirt bearing the Bayou City Classic logo.

Post Race Party and Awards Ceremony:

After the race, enjoy refreshments donated by our fabulous sponsors and music at City Hall around the reflection pool of Hermann Square.  The awards ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m.  The party goes on and on!

Please arrive early enough to find parking and make your way to the Start Line before 7:45 a.m.  Street parking is not free on Saturdays and streets around the Start Line and Finish Line may be closed.  You can find the locations of parking garages here.

Race Scoring:

Race scoring for the in-person 10k and the 5k will be done by electronic timing.  You will not be considered an official finisher if you detach the timing device from your bib.
